Конспект уроку

The Theme: Health

 Objectives:
·        to systematize pupils' knowledge on the theme;
·        to revise and practice vocabulary;
·        to develop pupils' speaking skills;
·        to practice using of mo­dal verb "should" in pupils' speech;
·        to review Grammar (Past Perfect);
·        to widen pupils’ outlook.

Equipment: pictures, handouts for group work, textbooks, PowerPoint presentation, cards for work.


PROCEDURE
I. Introduction. Greeting
Teacher: Good morning, everyone. I am glad to see you today.
Pupils: Good morning, teacher. We are glad to see you, too.
Teacher: The theme of our lesson today is "Illnesses and Their Treatment".

 But before we start I'd like you to divide into 2 teams.
 (Teacher puts different colors on pupils’ backs and they have to find their team)

II. Warming-up
Teacher: So, we have two teams and I would like to make up a Mind Map on the topic “Health”
Pupils: Healthy food, body care, fresh air, travelling, vitamins and so on.
Teacher: Do you know proverbs about health? Look at the blackboard and try to find the end of each proverb.

1.     An apple a day  -  keeps the doctor away.
2.     A sound mind -  in a sound body.
3.     Laughter is  -   the best medicine.
4.     Prevention is better  -  then cure.

III. Homework Checking
Your homework was to make a leaflet about health.

IV. Vocabulary Revision
Teacher: Let’s play a game.
Game "Anagram".
Class is divided into two teams. The teacher puts two sets of the cards on the desks (or on the blackboard) face down. Each member of the team comes up to the desk, takes one of the cards, makes up a word of the letters, given in the card and writes this word on the blackboard. The team gets one point for every correct word. The winner is the team, which will get more points.

 Make up the names of the parts of the body using the letters.

 Teacher: Last lesson we learned the names of the illnesses. Do you remember them? Let's check it up.
(The teacher points at the pictures fixed to the blackboard, which demonstrate some illnesses, and the pupils in turns name the illnesses.)
 Teacher: Now let's see if you can use these words correctly.
Complete the sentences, using the following words:
 headache, toothache, sore throat, stomachache, pain in the knee.

1. Pamela ate too much ice-cream yesterday and today she has got a___________.
2.  Tom played football yesterday. He fell down and now he has got a___________.
3. Den didn't wash his hands before supper yesterday and today he has got a___________.
4.  Amanda often has got a __________because she watches TV from morning till night.
5.  Fred doesn't visit dentist regularly, that's why he often has got a__________.

V. Vocabulary and Grammar Practice
Teacher: Let’s play a group game. Listen to the task.
 Group work
Pupils are divided into 2 groups. Each group gets the card with the task. Each group has 5 minutes to discuss the task and to write down the resolution.
At the end one pupil from every group reads the sentences the group has made up.

Your friend has got a cold. Write what he should do and shouldn't do.

VI. Listening Comprehension
(The teacher reads the dialogue twice.)
Telephone Conversation
— Hello, Helen. How are you today?
— Hi, Sue! I'm getting better, thank you.
— Has the doctor visited you, Helen?
— Oh, yes. We expected the doctor in the afternoon, but he came in the morning.
— What's wrong with you, Helen?
— I have got a headache and a high temperature.
— Do you have a sore throat, Helen? 
— No, I don't. But I have an earache.
— Has the doctor prescribed you anything?
—  Yes, he has. He has prescribed me some ear drops and some tablets for high temperature.
— Do you take any vitamins?
—  Certainly, I do. The doctor says I will recover in four-five days.
— Sure you will. See you soon, then.
— Bye, Sue.
(The teacher reads the statements and the pupils in turns say if they are true or false.)
Teacher: Sue has fallen ill.
Helen has fallen ill.
The doctor came in the afternoon.
Helen had a high temperature and a sore throat.
Helen had an earache and a high temperature.
The doctor has prescribed Helen some tablets for the cough.
Helen doesn't take any vitamins.
Helen will recover in less than a week.
VII. Speaking
Teacher: Let’s make the dialogues.
Pupils work in pairs. They make up the dialogues, following the instructions from the cards. The time of the work is limited (4-5minutes). When the time is over, pairs act the dialogues out.



1. Make up a dialogue:
You are a patient. You have got high temperature, cough, and a headache. Ask the doctor to prescribe you some medicine.
EX: Good morning doctor!
-         Good morning! What’s the matter?
-         I’ve got high temperature, cough and headache, and I had had a stomachache, but now it’s better.
-         How long had you had it?
-         I had had it for 3 days.
-         I think you should drink hot tea, take medicine to stop your cough. Take one tablet two times a day.
-         Thank you doctor. Good bye!
 2. Make up a dialogue:
You are a doctor. Ask the patient
— what the matter is with him/her;
— about the symptoms of his/her illness; Prescribe some medicine to the patient, tell how many
times a day he/she should take it; if he/she should take it before or after meals.
EX:
-         What can I do for you?
-         I have a sore throat.
-         Well. Yes, it’s very red. How long has it been like this?
-         About two days.
-         Well you’ve got an infection there. I’ll give you a prescription for some tablets. Take one tablet four times a day.
-         Thank you doctor. Good bye!
-         Bye!

Teacher: Your next task will be to open the brackets and put the verbs into right form. Two teams will get the task.

VII. Summing up.
Teacher: And our last game “A Cat In A Bag”
You have to describe a thing in a bag without looking, use only hands and words.
Teacher: Did you like the lesson?
               What activity did you like most of all? Why?

VIII. Home Assignment
Teacher: You should make up a phone conversation with your sick friend and act it out in pairs.
